Honoring Mohamed Shukri Jameel: A Journey Through Rare Photographs

Photographer and archivist Rizgar Al-Barzanji documented the life of the late great director Mohamed Shukri Jameel through a unique exhibition. This special showcase displayed rare and beautiful photographs capturing the most exceptional moments of the artist’s journey.

The exhibition took place in the historical Al-Mutasarrifiya building on Al-Mutanabbi Street in Baghdad. It was organized under the supervision of the Cultural Advisory Office of the Prime Minister, in collaboration with the Baghdad Cultural Center, and supported by the Iraqi Private Banks League.

Several prominent figures attended the event, including Arif Al-Saadi, the Prime Minister’s Cultural Advisor, along with the late artist’s family. His wife, artist Fatima Al-Rubaie, and a large number of artists, intellectuals, and media figures participated as well.

Photographer Rizgar Al-Barzanji explained that he gathered many rare photographs of the late Mohamed Shukri Jameel. Some of these precious photos were taken through his own lens, while others were collected from the Cinema and Theater Department archives.

Furthermore, he confirmed that Mohamed Shukri Jameel’s artistic journey was documented across all stages of his life. The exhibition featured 90 distinctive and rare photographs that captured moments of his outstanding career.

Al-Barzanji stressed that honoring Mohamed Shukri Jameel through photography serves as a heartfelt tribute to his contributions. Over several decades, Jameel enriched Iraqi art with a legacy of creativity and dedication.

Moreover, Al-Barzanji revealed that the exhibition honoring Mohamed Shukri Jameel will also be held at the Cinema and Theater Department. This additional display will allow more artists, colleagues, and admirers who worked alongside him to revisit his legacy.

Honoring Mohamed Shukri Jameel through these visual memories ensures that his vibrant spirit and remarkable achievements remain alive. His work continues to inspire future generations of artists, filmmakers, and cultural enthusiasts.
