Iraq to Vote on PMF Retirement Law Next Week

Baghdad, Iraq – The Shiite Coordination Framework (CF) has reached an agreement on the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) Service and Retirement Law, paving the way for a parliamentary vote next week, according to an Iraqi MP.

The law sets the retirement age at 60, with potential five-year extensions approved by Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces. This agreement resolves internal disputes, notably regarding the PMF chief’s retirement age, aligning it with Iraq’s State Employees Law.

The law will regulate service conditions for PMF members, formalizing the paramilitary force’s structure within Iraq’s security system.
