PM Mohammed Sudan’s Speech: Key Takeaways

Baghdad, Iraq- The Prime Minister addressed a range of critical issues in a recent speech, outlining the government’s approach to domestic and international challenges. He acknowledged the significant political hurdles faced both internally and externally, emphasizing the difficulty of balancing national responsibilities with the need to uphold Iraq’s principled stance on the regional and global stage. The Prime Minister stressed the government’s commitment to a balanced policy, despite facing political pressures and what he described as unrealistic and irresponsible rhetoric. He affirmed the government’s determination to protect Iraq from the consequences of decisions that ignore national interests and the will of the people.

Addressing the situation in Gaza, the Prime Minister described recent events as a turning point in the long struggle to deny Palestinians their right to life, land, and existence, following a history marked by displacement and the erasure of identity. He asserted that discussions with international actors, as well as engagements at the United Nations and other global platforms, have revealed a failure of the international system to fulfill its obligations.

The Prime Minister reiterated Iraq’s unwavering commitment to development and reconstruction, emphasizing that this path cannot be delayed. He highlighted major strategic projects, most notably the Development Road, as a key economic pillar for strengthening regional stability. The Development Road, he stated, offers an opportunity for integration and partnership with neighboring and regional countries, solidifying Iraq’s historical, economic, and cultural importance.

The Prime Minister also pointed to Iraq’s success in initiating and fostering key regional dialogues, including the important discussions between Saudi Arabia and Iran. He announced the successful conclusion of the Global Coalition Against Daesh’s mission in Iraq, achieved through responsible dialogue, with a transition to bilateral relations and security coordination with member states. He credited public and parliamentary support, along with the responsible stance of national political forces, for the successful management of these issues.

The Prime Minister emphasized that trade, cultural, and economic exchange with neighboring and friendly countries remains a fundamental pillar of civilization-building and maximizing the value of natural resources. He reaffirmed the Development Road as a regional project and a catalyst for promoting exchange between nations across various fields.
