Toyota Leads Iraq’s Car Market in 2024

Baghdad, Iraq- Toyota emerged as the top-selling car brand in Iraq in 2024, surpassing competitors Kia and Hyundai, according to industry reports. The brand saw a 35.9% increase in sales, climbing one position from the previous year. Kia followed in second place with a 12.7% growth, while Hyundai secured third, recording a 36.2% rise in sales.

Among other brands, MG experienced a modest increase of 0.8%, whereas Suzuki, ranked fifth, achieved one of the most significant growth rates among the top 10 brands, with a surge of 120.9%.

The Toyota Hilux emerged as the best-selling model, with a 49.1% year-on-year increase in sales, followed by the Kia Frontier.

Iraq’s automotive sector is also witnessing a shift toward electric vehicles (EVs), with the market expanding by 164% in 2024. EVs accounted for 2.42% of total car sales. While still a small share, Iraq is expected to continue efforts to diversify its energy sources and reduce reliance on fossil fuels. Toyota dominated the EV segment, securing over 90% of sales, significantly outperforming other brands such as Lexus and Land Rover.
