PM Al-Sudani Commends Parliament’s Approval of Budget Law Amendment, Calls for Immediate Implementation

Baghdad, Iraq – Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani expressed his appreciation on Sunday for the Iraqi Parliament’s approval of the amendment to the Federal General Budget Law for the fiscal years 2023-2025. He urged both the Kurdistan Regional Government and the Federal Ministry of Oil to begin implementing the changes without delay.

In a statement issued by the Iraqi government, spokesperson Basim Al-Awadi conveyed Al-Sudani’s gratitude for the “responsible and constructive” action taken by the Council of Representatives in approving the amendment. The amendment, which was aligned with the text previously submitted by the Council of Ministers, was passed with broad parliamentary support.

The Prime Minister also thanked key parliamentary leaders, including the Speaker of the Council of Representatives, the First and Second Deputy Speakers, and the heads of parliamentary blocs, for their understanding and backing of the government’s vision. He emphasized that the government’s approach is focused on implementing its program in line with the priorities set by the Iraqi people.

Al-Sudani noted that the approval of the amendment demonstrated political stability and cooperation between the government and Parliament. He described it as a positive step forward in maintaining the momentum of development, reconstruction, and reform that the government is committed to.

Further stressing the importance of the amendment, the Prime Minister called on the Kurdistan Regional Government and the Federal Ministry of Oil to take immediate action to ensure optimal investment in Iraq’s natural resources, particularly oil. He emphasized that Iraq’s wealth should serve as a foundation for national stability and a catalyst for programs aimed at meeting the needs of the Iraqi people.

Al-Sudani concluded by reaffirming the government’s commitment to addressing Iraq’s challenges responsibly, while working toward the greater good of the nation.
