Iraq Seizes Over $26 Million and Arrests More Suspects as Operation Dawn Corruption Crackdown Expands

Iraq corruption crackdown continued to gain momentum on Monday as authorities seized more than $26 million in cash and arrested several additional suspects. Investigators targeted a corruption network linked to former Oil Ministry official Adnan al-Jumaili. Furthermore, officials expanded raids across multiple provinces under the nationwide anti-corruption campaign.

The Iraqi Supreme Judicial Council announced that investigators recovered another 25 billion Iraqi dinars, worth about $19 million. Authorities also seized $1 million in cash and nearly five kilograms of gold jewelry. Investigators found the assets during operations connected to detained former Oil Ministry Undersecretary for Refining Affairs Adnan al-Jumaili and several associates.

Moreover, the latest developments marked another major step in Operation Dawn, the government’s large-scale campaign against corruption. Iraqi authorities launched the operation last week with support from the Federal Commission of Integrity. Since then, security forces have carried out coordinated raids across the country.

Officials stated that Operation Dawn has already led to the arrest of dozens of politicians, lawmakers, former officials, and senior government employees. At the same time, investigators recovered tens of millions of dollars in stolen assets. Authorities also reclaimed state-owned properties that individuals had allegedly transferred into private ownership through illegal means.

According to the Supreme Judicial Council, the total assets linked to Adnan al-Jumaili have increased significantly. Authorities have now seized 127 billion Iraqi dinars, valued at approximately $97 million, along with $24 million in cash. In addition, investigators confiscated several properties, luxury vehicles, and large quantities of gold jewelry connected to the case.

Meanwhile, security forces widened their investigation beyond Baghdad. Officials in Saladin province confirmed the arrest of Hamad al-Jumaili, the Project Manager at the Baiji Refinery. Authorities detained him in the Shirqat district as part of the expanding investigation into the same corruption network.

Provincial officials said investigators linked the suspect to financial irregularities exceeding three billion Iraqi dinars, or roughly $2.2 million. Authorities continue reviewing financial records and contracts connected to the refinery projects.

Later on Monday, Iraq’s Interior Ministry announced another breakthrough. Intelligence officers arrested an additional suspect tied to the al-Jumaili network in Saladin province. During the operation, authorities seized more than $3 millionin cash. They also recovered over 750 million Iraqi dinars, valued at roughly $570,000.

Furthermore, investigators confiscated several light weapons, multiple vehicles, and government contracts discovered inside the suspect’s residence. Officials believe the recovered documents could help uncover additional financial crimes and identify more individuals connected to the network.

The latest operations highlight the government’s determination to dismantle organized corruption networks. Authorities continue pursuing suspects, tracing financial assets, and expanding investigations into public institutions. Officials have pledged to recover stolen public funds and strengthen accountability across government agencies.

Additionally, the campaign arrives as Iraq faces continued international scrutiny over public-sector transparency. According to Transparency International’s Transparency International 2025 Corruption Perceptions Index, Iraq ranked 136th out of 182 countries. The country received a score of 28 out of 100, indicating persistent corruption challenges within the public sector.

As Iraq corruption crackdown enters a new phase, authorities continue carrying out arrests and asset seizures across several provinces. Officials say investigations remain active, and they expect further operations as they pursue additional suspects and recover more public funds.
