Baghdad, Iraq – President Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid met with Speaker of the House of Representatives Mahmoud al-Mashhadani on Wednesday in Baghdad to discuss key political and security matters at both national and international levels, as well as preparations for the upcoming parliamentary elections.
According to an official statement from the Presidency, the discussions focused on the importance of ensuring all necessary steps are taken to guarantee the success of the electoral process, aligning with the aspirations of the Iraqi people for stability and sustainable development.
The President emphasized the need for continued cooperation between the Presidency and the House of Representatives, particularly in advancing draft legislation submitted for review and approval, with the goal of upholding the rights of all citizens.
He also commended the recent parliamentary approval of the law recognizing Halabja as an official governorate, calling it a significant milestone in acknowledging the suffering of victims and delivering long-awaited justice.
Speaker al-Mashhadani expressed his gratitude for the President’s role in supporting political stability and affirmed the Parliament’s commitment to fulfilling its responsibilities in service of Iraq’s national interests and the well-being of its people.
