Political Participation Matters: Parties Urged to Register

Baghdad, Iraq – The Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) has confirmed a significant update regarding registered parties and alliances in Iraq. As part of its ongoing preparations, the commission invited political entities to declare their intent to participate in the upcoming parliamentary elections. According to officials, political participation matters more than ever during this critical stage.

Jumana Al-Ghalai, the spokesperson for the commission, explained that IHEC continues to review the operations schedule and related timelines. These steps aim to finalize the electoral process and gain official approval from the Board of Commissioners. She also confirmed that the registration phase for parties and alliances has officially begun.

The Political Parties and Organizations Affairs Department has taken the lead in this effort. It now invites all registered groups to submit formal notices of participation. So far, the number of registered political parties has surpassed 320. Meanwhile, over 60 political alliances have also secured registration.

According to IHEC, previously registered alliances that have not undergone any internal changes can complete their registration swiftly. However, new alliances or those that have made adjustments must follow specific procedures. These include submitting updated documents and visiting the designated registration office.

Moreover, IHEC encourages all political entities to act promptly and avoid delays. The commission stressed that political participation matters for ensuring transparency and fairness in the electoral process. Officials believe that broad participation strengthens democratic engagement and improves public trust.

Through this phase, the commission aims to create a clear roadmap for elections. It seeks to guarantee inclusion and equal opportunity for all political voices. By doing so, IHEC reinforces the role of free elections in building national unity.

In conclusion, the electoral commission views this moment as pivotal. It urges political actors to comply with registration steps and contribute to the democratic process. After all, political participation matters for shaping Iraq’s future.
