PMF Positions Hit Twice in Dibis and Kirkuk, Leaving Six Dead

Rising attacks on the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) positions put Iraq on high alert and underscore the urgent need for Iraq’s security measures. Early Tuesday, two separate strikes struck the 40th Brigade headquarters in northwestern Dibis, Kirkuk, killing six people.

The Kirkuk operations command reported that nearly 20 others were injured, with some in critical condition. The first strike struck civilians and responders, and a second strike hit ambulances and locals assisting the wounded. Officials emphasized that protecting civilians remains central to Iraq’s security measures.

The attacks occurred just hours after U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani. Rubio stressed that Iraq must take all possible measures to protect U.S. personnel and facilities.

Rubio also strongly condemned “terrorist attacks” by Iran and Iran-aligned armed groups in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region. According to a U.S. State Department readout, both leaders reiterated the importance of safeguarding American diplomatic personnel and infrastructure.

This strike follows other bombardments targeting pro-Iran groups. On Sunday, four PMF members were killed and eight wounded in Diyala province, in Sharaban district. The Diyala police spokesperson said it is unclear whether the attack came from a drone or a missile. The PMF identified the victims as members of the 41st Brigade, affiliated with the Asaib Ahl al-Haq movement. The brigade accused the United States and Israel of carrying out the strike, though neither has commented.

The incident reflects a broader regional conflict involving Iran, the United States, and Israel. In response to U.S. actions, Islamic Resistance in Iraq groups claim they have launched over 200 drone and missile attacks on U.S. bases in the past ten days.

Officials continue to stress that Iraq’s security measures must prioritize both military and civilian protection. Coordination between Iraqi authorities and international partners is essential to prevent further escalation.

The repeated attacks underline the fragile security environment. Authorities are calling for immediate action, highlighting that Iraq’s security measures are critical for stability and the safety of both residents and foreign missions.
