Nineveh Hosts Voter Awareness Dialogue to Strengthen Democratic Participation

Baghdad – On Sunday, Nineveh voter awareness dialogue took center stage in Mosul. The Independent High Electoral Commission of Nineveh organized its fifth session to promote voter education. This event brought together religious leaders and tribal elders. Their goal was to encourage democratic participation and reinforce active voter engagement.

Sufyan al-Mashhadani, media official for the Nineveh Election Office, spoke to Shafaq News. He explained that the session aimed to boost voter turnout in the upcoming November 11 elections. Moreover, he highlighted how religious and tribal institutions play a key role. In fact, these groups guide citizens toward responsible voting and transparency.

This dialogue session took place right after the voter registration update ended. The update ran from March 25 to June 20. It was the longest voter update period in the commission’s history. During this time, nearly 2.9 million voters registered in Nineveh. About 1.9 million of them hold biometric ID cards.

More than 290,000 voters updated their information during this period. Also, nearly 44,000 new registrants born in 2007 joined the voters’ list for the first time. Al-Mashhadani shared that new biometric cards are currently being issued. He expects the total number of eligible voters to exceed 2 million soon.

The official also addressed displaced Iraqis from Sinjar. He confirmed that those living in camps in Duhok and other Kurdistan Region areas remain eligible to vote. They can vote either at their current locations or transfer their polling centers. Options include Sinjar or any preferred area.

Nineveh voter awareness dialogue clearly highlights the commission’s commitment to inclusive democracy. It stresses the importance of cooperation between electoral authorities, tribal leaders, and religious figures. This partnership helps foster informed voting and supports democratic values across the region.

In conclusion, As election day approaches, the Nineveh voter awareness dialogue will continue to raise awareness. The commission hopes these efforts increase voter turnout and strengthen electoral integrity. Encouraging citizens to exercise their right to vote remains a top priority.
