Modern Irrigation Systems Boost Agriculture in Iraq

Modern Irrigation Systems Boost Agriculture in Iraq, as the country inaugurated a new factory in Abu Ghraib on Tuesday. Industry Minister Khalid Battal led the opening ceremony, which marked a significant partnership with Saudi Arabia’s Al-Khorayef Company.

The plant, located west of Baghdad, has the capacity to produce 1,500 systems annually. Moreover, the new facility supports Iraq’s long-term goal of improving agricultural output and strengthening food security.

Speaking during the event, Battal explained that Iraq requires nearly 80 million irrigation systems. Therefore, the government approved installment-based sales to farmers. This approach encourages adoption and provides financial relief to growers across the country.

The factory, operating under the brand Rash, will produce systems suitable for lands measuring 15 to 60 acres. In addition, the project is jointly managed by Iraq’s Al-Faris General Company and Al-Khorayef. Such collaboration reflects growing regional investment in Iraq’s industrial sector.

Battal also highlighted recent achievements in the agricultural field. He confirmed that Iraq has reached wheat self-sufficiency. Furthermore, the country has exported part of its harvest while maintaining adequate reserves for domestic use.

According to Battal, projects like the Abu Ghraib plant play a crucial role in transforming state-owned companies. They shift operations toward profitability while contributing to broader economic and social goals. Thus, joint ventures are now seen as a cornerstone of Iraq’s development strategy.

The launch follows two earlier industrial partnerships. In February 2023, a venture began at the State Company for Automotive and Equipment Industries in Babil. Later, in October 2024, another project started at the State Company for Construction Industries in Baghdad. Both initiatives aimed at reducing Iraq’s reliance on imports.

Modern Irrigation Systems Boost Agriculture in Iraq by providing farmers with better tools for cultivation. The Abu Ghraib factory represents a vital step toward ensuring sustainable farming and meeting the nation’s food needs.

In conclusion, the inauguration signals more than an industrial milestone. It shows Iraq’s determination to modernize agriculture, foster regional cooperation, and secure a resilient future. Modern Irrigation Systems Boost Agriculture in Iraq, shaping both the present and the future of food production.
