Construction Resumes on Major Sports Complex After 13-Year Halt

In a significant step toward enhancing the country’s sports infrastructure, work has resumed on the long-delayed Dhi Qar Sports Complex. After a 13-year pause, officials are determined to see this project completed.

Muhanad Al-Sahlani, director of youth and sports in Dhi Qar, confirmed that the project aligns with the government’s agenda. He emphasized that reviving halted projects is a key priority to create a fully equipped space for athletes and fans. The sports complex is designed to be a comprehensive facility, catering to various sporting needs.

The Dhi Qar Sports Complex features a main stadium with a capacity of 30,000 spectators. Additionally, it includes training fields that can accommodate 2,000 and 500 fans, a dedicated athletics track, and a four-star hotel with 75 rooms. These facilities aim to provide athletes with a top-tier environment for training and competition.

Government authorities have set a strict one-year deadline for project completion. The construction company has accelerated operations, keeping work ongoing around the clock. With multiple workstations active 24/7, the goal is to ensure steady progress and timely delivery.

Local authorities are also playing a vital role in supporting the construction team. They have provided essential services, including water, electricity, and security, to facilitate smooth operations. The Ministry of Youth and Sports had previously warned the company about delays but later granted an extension. Now, with full backing and a structured plan, the project is moving forward as scheduled.

Officials remain optimistic about meeting the deadline. They believe the sports complex will become a landmark facility, fostering athletic excellence and community engagement. The Dhi Qar Sports Complex is set to transform the local sports scene, offering a state-of-the-art venue for athletes and fans alike.**
