BP, Iraq agree details of Kirkuk Oilfield Redevelopment

BP has signed a preliminary agreement with H.E. Hayan Abdul Ghani, Iraq’s Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs and Minister of Oil, marking a significant milestone in talks for the redevelopment of oil and gas fields in the Kirkuk region of northern Iraq.

This new agreement builds on a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed earlier this year between BP and the Iraqi government. The MoU laid out a framework to explore an integrated oil and gas redevelopment program in Kirkuk, with the possibility of further investment in exploration.William Lin, BP’s Executive Vice President, stated, “This is a key step towards finalizing a full contract. We appreciate the ongoing support of the Iraqi government and their active participation in advancing discussions on the future development of these important fields in and around Kirkuk
