Basra Governor Announces Launch of Madinat Al-Nakhil Project

Baghdad, Iraq- Basra Governor Asaad Al-Eidani has announced the launch of Madinat Al-Nakhil (Palm City), a large-scale residential and developmental project aimed at transforming the region’s urban landscape.

Planned for over a decade, the eco-friendly city will cover 54 nature reserves and 34 additional dunams, integrating sustainable infrastructure with modern living. The project includes 120,000 housing units, universities, and industrial zones designed to reduce carbon emissions and enhance the quality of life for residents.

The development is backed by international firms from Egypt, China, and the Gulf, including Al-Safi Group, Mountain View, and China Railway Construction Corporation. With full approvals in place, investment licenses are expected to be granted soon.

Local authorities have pledged to provide infrastructure and security support to investors, positioning Basra as a key economic hub in the region.
