Arab Summit in Cairo to Discuss Gaza Reconstruction.

Baghdad, Iraq- The emergency Arab summit on Gaza reconstruction has been convened by Egypt in response to recent developments regarding the situation in Gaza. The summit, scheduled for March 4, will bring together Arab League members to discuss an alternative to U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposal to “take over” Gaza and resettle Palestinians elsewhere, particularly in Egypt and Jordan. This proposal, which was made on February 5, was met with rejection by Egypt, which emphasized its commitment to ensuring Palestinians remain in Gaza.

Egypt has prepared a reconstruction plan for Gaza that avoids ethnic cleansing, aiming to restore the region while respecting Palestinian rights. This summit seeks to create a united Arab response and present a plan that focuses on rebuilding Gaza without displacing its population.

The summit follows growing concerns over Israel’s actions in Gaza. On February 21, Egypt, Jordan, and the six Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries met in Riyadh to finalize the agenda for this meeting. One of the ongoing issues is the ceasefire negotiations, which have been stalled, and the recent decision by Israel to block all humanitarian aid to Gaza, further exacerbating the humanitarian crisis.

The summit will likely focus on ensuring that Gaza remains a viable and habitable space for Palestinians, rejecting proposals that would forcefully remove them from their homeland.
