Al-Sudani urges Iraqis to vote in November elections and warns that political disengagement could damage the country’s democratic future. He delivered the remarks on Tuesday during a ceremony in Baghdad marking the International Day of Democracy.
The prime minister highlighted the significance of the upcoming parliamentary elections. He confirmed that the vote will take place on schedule and with full state support. His administration, he said, stands firmly behind the Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC).
“We will protect this election,” al-Sudani stated. “We will not allow any group to sabotage this democratic process.”
He emphasized the role of individual voters. According to al-Sudani, every vote represents a responsibility and a voice for Iraq’s future. He cautioned that staying home on election day could empower dangerous forces.
“When people don’t vote,” he warned, “they open the door to corrupt alternatives who chase personal gain over national interest.”
Al-Sudani’s comments come as Iraq prepares for its sixth national election since the 2003 political transition. Many citizens remain skeptical of the process due to past fraud allegations and political instability.
Even so, al-Sudani vowed to restore public trust. He called on all Iraqis—young and old—to show up and shape their country’s direction. He described the election as a turning point for national unity and reform.
In recent months, Iraq’s political climate has remained tense. Allegations of smear campaigns and internal leaks have deepened public mistrust. Despite that, the prime minister assured voters that security forces will protect the vote.
Al-Sudani urges Iraqis to vote in November elections not just to defend democracy, but also to reject foreign influence and internal corruption. He said the government’s role is to ensure fairness and security throughout the process.
He concluded his speech with a direct appeal. “Do not let silence speak louder than your vote.”
As the election nears, al-Sudani urges Iraqis to vote in November elections and keep democracy alive through civic action.
