Baghdad – Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani met with Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar to discuss strengthening cooperation between Iraq and Turkey in various sectors.
Al-Sudani reaffirmed the Iraqi government’s commitment to expanding collaboration with Turkish companies across multiple industries. He highlighted ongoing efforts to diversify Iraq’s energy sources, including increasing electricity imports through interconnection projects. The discussion also covered the Development Road Project, a strategic initiative aimed at boosting regional connectivity. Additionally, both sides stressed the importance of enhanced water cooperation to ensure stable water supplies for Iraq.
The prime minister noted that the government is making significant efforts to resume oil exports from the Kurdistan Region. He explained that negotiations are ongoing with foreign oil companies operating in the region to resolve technical issues and facilitate the resumption of exports.
This meeting reflects Iraq’s broader strategy to enhance regional partnerships and secure stable energy and economic ties with Turkey.
