Agriculture Drives Economic Growth Says PM Al Sudani

Agriculture drives economic growth in Iraq, according to Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al Sudani. He emphasized this message during a recent meeting with agriculture professors from the University of Baghdad. The discussion highlighted agriculture as a core pillar of Iraq’s economy and a key focus of his government.

Al Sudani listened closely to experts from the College of Agriculture. They explained how scientific research could reshape Iraq’s agricultural reality. In response, the Prime Minister emphasized that agriculture drives economic growthand should be treated as a national priority. He believes academics must take an active role in shaping the country’s rural development.

Moreover, he called on university professors to contribute their knowledge directly to practical farming initiatives. Their insight, he said, can solve real-world problems and boost production. In addition, he encouraged widespread adoption of modern agricultural technologies. This includes irrigation systems, data analysis tools, and sustainable farming practices.

Al Sudani also pointed out that innovation increases crop yield and helps tackle climate-related challenges. He urged universities to partner with the government to apply cutting-edge research across farming regions. With teamwork, he said, Iraq can reduce food imports and create thousands of rural jobs.

Furthermore, the Prime Minister reassured professors that his government supports education reform. He mentioned efforts to eliminate obstacles faced by academic staff. This, he said, allows universities to thrive and contribute more to national development.

Al Sudani concluded by affirming that Iraq’s future depends on productive collaboration between the government and academia. He stressed that agriculture drives economic growth and must remain at the center of reform plans.

Moreover, modern agricultural breakthroughs in Iraq now rely heavily on university-led research. By linking scientific discovery with practical farming techniques, academic institutions help farmers adopt smarter, more efficient methods. These innovations include water-saving irrigation systems, climate-resilient crops, and advanced soil analysis. As universities continue to push the boundaries of what’s possible, Iraq’s agricultural sector gains new tools to meet growing food demands and environmental challenges.
