KRG Online Classes Extended as Schools Shift Amid Security Concerns

The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) announced Sunday that it will suspend all in-person classes. Schools will switch to KRG online classes until further notice. The decision reverses Friday’s plan to reopen schools and responds to escalating attacks from Iraqi militias.

The government instructed the Ministries of Education and Higher Education to implement online systems and organize learning. Classes will move online starting Monday, March 30. The suspension covers all public, private, and international schools at every level.

Public schools will use platforms such as E-wana and Qutabxanekem for homework and daily lessons. Educational television channels will broadcast lessons across Erbil, Sulaymaniyah, and Duhok governorates. Meanwhile, private and international schools will continue teaching through their own online systems. The ministries will announce exam dates and academic calendar changes when ready.

The KRG reversed its earlier plan after drone and missile attacks linked to the Iran conflict threatened the Kurdistan Region. Students faced unsafe conditions if schools reopened. Officials acted quickly to protect them and maintain continuity in learning.

The government aims to sustain education despite security risks. Consequently, students, teachers, and parents must adapt to online learning for an extended period. Schools have upgraded digital tools to ensure smooth lessons and daily engagement.

Furthermore, authorities are coordinating with internet providers to prevent connectivity issues. Educators prepare supplemental materials to cover lost classroom time. Officials also train staff to manage virtual classrooms efficiently. Meanwhile, parents receive guidance to support students at home.

This extended shift to KRG online classes highlights both challenges and resilience. It demonstrates the government’s commitment to protecting students while keeping education functional. Families must adjust to online routines, and teachers continue developing strategies to maintain learning quality.

In conclusion, KRG online classes will continue until security improves. Officials emphasize safety, flexibility, and uninterrupted learning. KRG online classes represent a temporary solution and a model of resilience during uncertain times.
