Iraq and Turkey Strengthen Ties at Doha Forum

Strategic Regional Cooperation shaped fresh talks between Iraq and Turkey during a high-level meeting at the 23rd Doha Forum on Sunday. Iraq’s Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein met Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan to review fast-moving political and regional developments. The two ministers stressed the importance of steady engagement as both countries navigate growing challenges. They also agreed to expand cooperation in ways that support regional stability.

Hussein opened the meeting with a detailed outline of Iraq’s priorities. He noted Iraq’s desire for stronger political, economic, and security ties with Turkey. Fidan welcomed this direction and emphasized Turkey’s readiness for deeper coordination. Both ministers agreed that Strategic Regional Cooperation can drive clearer communication and reduce regional uncertainty.

The ministers then shifted toward regional files. They reviewed the situation in Syria, and they assessed the hardships facing Syrian civilians. They also discussed the role of Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad in shaping the next phase of the crisis. Hussein and Fidan highlighted the need for new economic and political initiatives that support long-term Syrian stability. They also called for more investment programs that reduce suffering and encourage development.

Furthermore, both sides addressed tensions involving Iran. They urged a calm environment because rising friction harms regional security. They also highlighted the value of dialogue and mutual understanding. Hussein stated that focused diplomacy can ease regional strain and help promote political solutions.

Hussein briefed Fidan on Iraq’s internal developments. He described Iraq’s recent electoral process as successful, and added that Iraq’s coalition talks continue and reflect a more stable political climate. He underlined that Iraq now aims to strengthen democratic practices and reinforce institutional confidence.

The ministers also reviewed economic cooperation. They discussed energy projects, trade routes, and joint development corridors. Both sides agreed that shared economic goals can support long-term stability and create reliable growth opportunities. They also reaffirmed their interest in expanding cross-border infrastructure links.

At the end of the meeting, the ministers agreed to maintain continuous communication. They pledged to advance Strategic Regional Cooperation through coordinated action and steady diplomatic engagement. They also emphasized the importance of historical ties and geographical links that shape the relationship between Iraq and Turkey.
