Al-Sudani and Macron Meet in Egypt to Boost Cooperation Ahead of Gaza Summit

Strengthening bilateral ties was the central theme during a high-level meeting between Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani and French President Emmanuel Macron. This strategic dialogue took place in Egypt ahead of the anticipated Gaza Summit. The leaders discussed a range of important topics, from economic collaboration to regional peace efforts.

Al-Sudani’s media office confirmed the leaders met to discuss ways to expand cooperation. Their goal remains clear—to advance shared interests across key sectors such as energy, defense, water, and infrastructure.

Macron assured al-Sudani that several French firms will participate in the upcoming Baghdad Conference for Cooperation and Partnership. These companies specialize in vital areas like renewable energy, infrastructure, and defense. Their presence is expected to significantly boost Iraq’s development agenda.

Additionally, the leaders touched on preparations for the Gaza Reconstruction Conference. France will chair this major international event. Macron emphasized the urgency of restoring Gaza’s infrastructure and meeting humanitarian needs.

The two leaders expressed a united stance on maintaining the current ceasefire in Gaza. They agreed on the importance of securing lasting peace and delivering aid to civilians without delay.

The meeting also served as a platform to align political goals ahead of broader international discussions. The Baghdad Conference is a key moment for Iraq to position itself as a regional partner in peace and economic collaboration.

Macron reaffirmed his country’s commitment to supporting Iraq’s long-term growth. He mentioned how French investment in Iraq serves both countries. This approach reflects strengthening bilateral ties through mutual respect and strategic cooperation.

Another major point of discussion was the Gaza summit in Sharm El-Sheikh. Over 20 international leaders are expected, including U.S. President Donald Trump and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi. Trump unveiled a 20-point peace plan that has already led to the release of hostages and Palestinian prisoners.

Trump praised Arab and Muslim nations for pressuring Hamas to release hostages. He plans to visit Egypt soon to sign the peace deal officially. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu supported the plan and expressed hope for a lasting peace alongside Trump.

The meeting between al-Sudani and Macron highlights a shift toward active diplomacy and regional engagement. Iraq and France now appear more aligned in addressing urgent Middle East issues.

By focusing on strengthening bilateral ties, both leaders showcased their commitment to peace, prosperity, and partnership. As the conferences draw closer, global attention remains fixed on the outcomes of these high-stakes meetings.
