Iraq Warns Against War Recruitment in Russia

The Iraqi Embassy in Moscow issued a strong warning on Friday. It cautioned Iraqis living in Russia against attempts to recruit them for the Russian-Ukrainian war. This alert comes amid rising concerns about misinformation spreading online. Iraq warns against war recruitment to protect its citizens from misleading and dangerous tactics.

In a statement, the embassy clarified recent false claims circulating on social media. According to the embassy, a person falsely claiming to represent the Iraqi community in Russia circulated misleading information. The embassy made it clear that these claims have no basis.

Furthermore, the embassy emphasized that it does not issue any visas linked to such false claims. It reminded Iraqis that only the Russian Embassy in Baghdad and its consulates in Erbil and Basra are authorized to issue entry visas to Russia. This reminder aims to prevent confusion among Iraqis considering travel to Russia.

The embassy also reaffirmed Iraq’s firm neutrality regarding the ongoing Russia-Ukraine crisis. It consistently calls for peaceful solutions and encourages dialogue to resolve the conflict. The statement stressed that Iraq strongly opposes any involvement in the war.

Moreover, the embassy warned that no official Iraqi community representative exists in Russia. This includes both Iraqi and Russian authorities. The embassy urged Iraqis not to trust or engage with individuals making false claims. It also cautioned against any attempts to lure Iraqis living in Russia or abroad to join the conflict.

In addition, the embassy categorically rejected these recruitment efforts. It called on all community members to remain vigilant and avoid falling into such traps. The embassy pledged to respond through diplomatic and legal channels if necessary. This response aims to protect Iraq’s interests and safeguard its citizens.
