Iraqi Olympic Team Targets Group Victory

The Iraqi Olympic team expressed confidence and respect for all opponents during a press conference in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, on Tuesday. Head coach Emad Mohammed told media that the team trusts its players’ abilities while acknowledging each opponent’s unique style.

Mohammed emphasized that respecting all teams is a source of strength. He said, “Every team has its own tactics, and recognizing this helps us prepare effectively.”

He added that Iraq’s first match against Pakistan on Wednesday is crucial. “This game serves as a gateway for our team to advance in the qualifiers. We aim to earn nine points from this group to secure direct qualification,” he stated.

When asked about the hot and humid Cambodian weather, Mohammed replied that the team had trained in Malaysia before arriving. “The camp was useful. While some key players joined late, the weather affects all teams equally, not just ours,” he explained.

Mohammed also highlighted the role of fans. “Our supporters in Iraq are a major source of strength. We always aim to make them proud, including for the Olympic team,” he said.

Olympic team player Kazem Raad, who joined the press conference, stressed the qualifiers’ importance. “These matches mark a key start for a new generation in Iraqi football,” he said.

Raad added that respecting opponents positively influences performance. “Acknowledging our rivals’ skills helps us achieve victories during these crucial games,” he noted.

The Iraqi Olympic team will play Pakistan at the Olympic Stadium in Phnom Penh at 4:00 PM local time, 12:00 PM in Baghdad. Cambodia faces Oman in the next match at 8:00 PM local time.

With strong preparation, respect for rivals, and fan support, the Iraqi Olympic team seeks to dominate its group and qualify directly for the tournament finals. This approach highlights the team’s strategic planning and dedication to excellence.

Iraqi Olympic team players and coaches remain focused on consistent performance, sustainable training methods, and maximizing opportunities in every match. Their commitment reflects Iraq’s growing ambition in Asian football competitions.
