Basra Oil Company Expands Storage Facility Upgrades to Boost Exports

Basra oil storage projects are progressing steadily as the Basra Oil Company continues upgrades to vital crude storage infrastructure. The company confirms that these developments support Iraq’s oil export operations.

On Sunday, Basra Oil Company Director General Bassem Abdul Kareem stated that efforts are ongoing to modernize several oil depots. These include operational sites like PS1 in Rumaila and the Zubair 1 and Zubair 2 depots. In addition, upgrades are underway at the Tuba depot, which handles heavy crude, and the Faw depot, considered a key pre-export site.

Moreover, Abdul Kareem explained that the company finalized the tender for the Faw depot. They assigned the project to a consulting firm (PMC). This firm will assess the equipment and provide recommendations. As a result, their evaluation will guide the full rehabilitation process and strengthen the depot’s role in Iraq’s export network.

In addition, work at the Tuba depot includes a new pipeline project to link it directly with the Faw site. This cooperation is being carried out with the support of Russian oil firm Lukoil. Furthermore, the company is preparing new tenders to build modern oil tanks at both the Tuba and PS1 depots.

Consequently, the technical review of these projects will start at the Faw depot before expanding to other locations. Basra oil storage projects like these are part of a broader national strategy to improve crude handling and export readiness.

Additionally, the Basra Oil Company aims to meet growing global demand by investing in long-term infrastructure solutions. By focusing on upgrades and pipeline expansion, the company can ensure more reliable and efficient export logistics.

Basra oil storage projects reflect Iraq’s broader goals to modernize its energy sector and enhance operational resilience. With continued support, these upgrades will increase Iraq’s competitiveness in global energy markets.

Ultimately, these initiatives highlight the importance of infrastructure in driving national growth and economic sustainability.
