New Power Line Boosts Basra’s Energy Network and Regional Connectivity

Basra electricity transmission line now delivers power across southern Iraq, marking a major leap in energy development. The new 480-megawatt line stretches from Faw to the Industrial Institute in Basra.

The Ministry of Electricity confirmed its launch as part of its strategy to upgrade transmission systems. According to officials, this project boosts reliability in power delivery, especially across Basra and nearby areas.

Moreover, this power line reflects Iraq’s growing investment in sustainable infrastructure. With a total length of 76 kilometers, it includes 244 transmission towers. These structures now help ensure a steady electricity flow to places like Abu Al-Khasib.

Additionally, the line is more than just a local improvement. It connects to a broader energy goal—Iraq’s plan for regional energy integration. Through the electricity interconnection with Gulf countries, Iraq aims to share and balance power across borders.

The Minister of Electricity, Ziyad Ali Fadel, said the launch represents progress toward modernizing Iraq’s entire power grid. He emphasized the ministry’s push for technical solutions that solve long-standing energy challenges.

Furthermore, the line plays a key role in easing power shortages in southern Iraq. It is designed to enhance efficiency in energy delivery while keeping pace with rising demand. The use of modern equipment also reduces pressure on older infrastructure.

Besides its technical impact, this project supports Iraq’s economic vision. A stable and efficient power supply can attract new businesses and reduce outages. Therefore, this line is both a practical and strategic asset for the region.

In summary, the Basra electricity transmission line strengthens the national grid and moves Iraq closer to regional energy cooperation. By investing in solid, forward-looking solutions, Iraq builds a stronger foundation for future growth.

With this milestone, the Basra electricity transmission line proves essential for reliable energy and lasting development across southern Iraq. This achievement also reflects Iraq’s broader commitment to energy independence. By continuing to upgrade its grid, Iraq can reduce reliance on external power sources. The government plans to expand similar infrastructure in other provinces. As a result, more regions will benefit from stable electricity and long-term development opportunities.
