Al-Sudani Defends Sovereignty in Call with Putin

Baghdad – Al-Sudani defends sovereignty during a crucial phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin. On Monday, the Iraqi Prime Minister addressed escalating regional tensions and violations of international norms.

Al-Sudani began by condemning recent Israeli strikes against Iran. He referred to the attacks as acts of Zionist aggression. He also denounced the U.S. bombing of Iranian nuclear sites, calling it a serious provocation.

Al-Sudani strongly objected to violations of Iraqi airspace. He accused both U.S. and Israeli aircraft of illegal overflights. He reaffirmed Iraq’s firm stance on protecting its territorial integrity.

Al-Sudani defends sovereignty by urging the United Nations Security Council to take immediate action. He called on the Council to stop the violence and restore meaningful diplomacy. According to him, international trust has eroded due to recent military escalations.

The conversation then shifted to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Al-Sudani described the situation as a genocide against Palestinians. He stressed the urgent need for international help. Millions in Gaza lack food, water, and medical supplies.

President Putin echoed several of Al-Sudani’s concerns. He emphasized the importance of de-escalation across the region. He also voiced support for Iraq’s sovereignty and praised its diplomatic efforts.

Putin congratulated Al-Sudani on hosting the Arab Summit successfully. He also invited Iraq to attend the upcoming Russia-Arab Summit scheduled for October 15. Both leaders agreed that cooperation between their nations must deepen.

The two discussed expanding bilateral ties. They focused on coordination in oil and gas sectors through the OPEC+ framework. Iraq and Russia aim to strengthen economic ties and mutual interests.

Additionally, Al-Sudani defends sovereignty as Iraq navigates growing regional instability. His clear message to international powers is that Iraq will not tolerate aggression. Instead, it will pursue diplomacy and protect its national dignity.
