Al-Anbar Political Balance Reinforced by PM al-Sudani’s Strategic Visit Ahead of Elections

Baghdad – The Al-Anbar political balance gained new momentum when Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani visited the province on Sunday. From the outset, his trip sent clear signals about his support for local stability and national development. The key phrase Al-Anbar political balance underscores the visit’s deeper significance amid ongoing political dynamics.

Al-Sudani met several tribal leaders early in his tour. Though the visit was unofficial, political actors closely followed it. Sources told Shafaq News that the visit had been planned for over a month. This delay aimed to prevent the visit from appearing politically motivated ahead of the November elections.

The meeting aimed to support local efforts in keeping Al-Anbar political balance intact, especially to avoid the province aligning with a single faction. The source said, “This is about preserving balance—particularly ahead of elections on November.”

However, some local officials expressed concerns. A member of Al-Anbar’s Provincial Council told Shafaq News the visit lacked formal coordination. “The provincial flag was not raised during the visit,” the official said. This absence suggested the visit did not follow the council’s protocols.

Moreover, al-Sudani met with vocal critics of the local government, including Hamid al-Hayis and Arkan al-Tarmouz. Both have recently criticized the province’s administration and appealed directly to the prime minister. Observers saw this as a sign of al-Sudani’s intention to shift the Al-Anbar political balance by recalibrating local power dynamics.

A source explained, “These meetings align with their recent statements and have raised questions due to excluding elected officials.” This move sparked debate among local political watchers.

Al-Anbar holds 15 parliamentary seats and plays a strategic role in Iraqi politics. The Sunni-majority province remains vital as elections approach. In 2021, the Taqadum Alliance won 11 seats, while independents claimed two. This independent presence might open new cooperation paths, as al-Sudani has yet to align fully with any faction in the province.

In summary, Prime Minister al-Sudani’s visit highlights his careful approach to maintaining Al-Anbar political balance. His actions reveal an effort to support stability, encourage dialogue, and prepare for upcoming electoral challenges.
