Low Voter Data Update Participation in Mosul Ahead of Parliamentary Elections

Baghdad – The Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) in Nineveh has reported low participation rates for voter data updates in Mosul, despite ongoing efforts to prepare for the upcoming parliamentary elections. Mosul, Iraq’s second-largest city with over three million residents, has seen slower turnout compared to surrounding districts and rural areas.

Since March 25, voter data updates have been underway, with mobile teams and fixed centers operating across the province. According to Sufyan al-Mashhadani, spokesperson for the IHEC in Nineveh, 118,000 voter records have been updated so far. This includes 18,000 new registrations for voters born in 2007 and 60,000 transfer cases. However, al-Mashhadani emphasized that central Mosul has shown weak participation in comparison to other areas in the province.
