Deputy Speaker Reaffirms Timely Elections and Push for Economic Reform

Baghdad – Deputy Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, Mohsen Al-Mandalawi, reaffirmed on Saturday the Parliament’s firm commitment to holding the upcoming parliamentary elections on time, without any delay, as part of efforts to strengthen Iraq’s democratic process and uphold the will of the people.

His remarks came during his participation in the Baghdad Diwan Forum, organized by the National Wisdom Movement, which was attended by Sayyid Ammar Al-Hakim and a number of political, social, and trade union figures, along with opinion leaders. The forum focused on key issues concerning Iraq’s current political, economic, and social landscape.

In a statement from his media office, Al-Mandalawi emphasized that Iraq is currently witnessing an unprecedented level of cooperation and understanding between the legislative and executive branches—an alignment he believes will significantly enhance public services and drive development, especially in the economic and security sectors.

Addressing economic concerns, Al-Mandalawi stressed the need for a unified approach to tackle any potential crisis arising from fluctuating global oil prices. He called for the adoption of sound economic policies and the activation of non-oil sectors to safeguard the stability of Iraq’s national economy.

The forum’s sessions covered three key areas: the political and governmental landscape, the upcoming elections, and the impact of international developments on Iraq’s internal affairs.

Concluding his remarks, Al-Mandalawi highlighted the importance of continuing inclusive national forums, describing them as essential platforms for strengthening political and social stability, while encouraging development and investment in the country
