Iraq and the Netherlands Discuss Regional Affairs and Strengthen Bilateral Ties

Iraq’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fuad Hussein, shared the country’s perspective on regional matters and its relationships with neighboring states during a meeting with Dutch Foreign Minister Kasper Veldkamp on Thursday. He also extended an invitation for his Dutch counterpart to visit Iraq.

In a statement issued by the Ministry, it was reported that the meeting took place at the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs in The Hague, where Minister Veldkamp warmly welcomed Deputy Prime Minister Hussein and his delegation. He emphasized the importance of strengthening the relationship between Iraq and the Netherlands.

The two officials discussed the latest developments in the Middle East, as well as the security challenges facing the region. Hussein presented Iraq’s position on the current regional situation and its relations with neighboring countries. They also addressed ways to further enhance bilateral ties, emphasizing the need for ongoing communication and joint coordination through political consultations and increasing bilateral visits.

Minister Hussein invited his Dutch counterpart to visit Iraq, and Veldkamp expressed his enthusiasm for the visit, hoping it would happen in the near future.

Hussein also expressed satisfaction with the progress in bilateral relations, acknowledging the Netherlands’ leadership of the NATO mission in Iraq, which is set to conclude next May.

On the topic of agricultural and water cooperation, both ministers emphasized the importance of continuing meetings within the framework of the Joint High Committee for Agriculture and Water. They also discussed the opportunity to benefit from the Netherlands’ expertise in these areas.

Finally, Hussein highlighted Iraq’s preparations for the upcoming Arab Summit in Baghdad, reiterating Iraq’s commitment to ensuring its success amidst current regional developments.
