Progress on Baghdad-Mosul Entrance Reaches 85%

Baghdad, Iraq – The construction work on the Baghdad-Mosul entrance has reached 85% completion, marking a significant milestone. Authorities have also launched a campaign to combat road distortions and violations in collaboration with the Baghdad-Karkh Police Command.

According to Abdullah Hussein, Director of Roads and Bridges in Baghdad, the project is progressing rapidly due to continuous field monitoring by top officials. The initial contract deadline was set for August 2026, but swift execution has pushed the expected completion to early April. However, recent cold weather and heavy rainfall have caused minor delays, as polymer asphalt requires a minimum temperature of 15°C for proper application.

Hussein noted that the project will experience a 30-day delay due to weather conditions. However, increased efforts will recover nearly 28 days of lost time. Most of the paving work has been completed, and side barriers and safety fences are already in place. Bridge construction remains ongoing, but overall progress has exceeded expectations.

The Baghdad-Mosul entrance is the longest and most important access route to the capital. In the past, it faced numerous obstacles, but continuous follow-ups from the Prime Minister and regular visits from the Baghdad Governor have helped resolve these challenges.

As the road nears completion, new issues have emerged, including illegal waste dumping and random advertisements on fences and bridges. To address this, authorities have launched a campaign in partnership with Baghdad-Karkh Police. Surveillance operations have led to the arrest of several violators, and enforcement efforts will continue.

To prevent road damage from overloaded trucks, authorities have installed advanced axle weight scales. These smart systems detect excess loads automatically without stopping vehicles. This ensures road durability and protects infrastructure from heavy transport damage.

Baghdad authorities are working hard to activate these weight scales before the road officially opens. Additionally, cameras will monitor violations, ensuring offenders face legal consequences. Strict enforcement will guarantee compliance with regulations and protect the road for years to come.
