A New Dawn for Iraqi Tourism: 2024 Sets New Records

Iraq, the birthplace of civilization, has seen a significant revival in its tourism sector in recent years. After years of conflict and instability, 2024 marked a turning point as travelers from around the world rediscovered Iraq’s ancient cities, rich culture, and warm hospitality.

A standout moment in 2024 was the visit of the YouTube channel Yes Theory, which highlighted Baghdad’s beauty and welcoming spirit, inspiring more tourists to explore Iraq. The country’s growing appeal was also recognized by international media, with CNN reporting a rise in Western tourists seeking authentic cultural experiences in Iraq.

Tourism numbers surged in 2024, with over 400,000 visitors, a dramatic increase from 120,000 in 2022. Baghdad’s selection as the Capital of Arab Tourism for 2025 further solidified Iraq’s position as a rising travel destination.

Despite ongoing challenges, such as infrastructure development and safety concerns, Iraq’s tourism sector offers opportunities in cultural festivals, historic landmarks, and ecotourism. With continued government efforts and the warmth of its people, Iraq is poised for a prosperous future in global tourism.

As 2025 approaches, Iraq’s tourism industry is set to grow even further, offering visitors a journey through history, from ancient ruins to vibrant urban life.
