Military Industry Expands to Support Iraq’s Security Forces

The military industry expands to support Iraq’s security forces, ensuring a steady supply of essential equipment. Light ammunition and armored vehicles remain readily available, while new projects focus on advanced weaponry.Mustafa Ati, head of Iraq’s Military Industrialization Authority, highlighted recent achievements in defense production. He emphasized that support from the Commander-in-Chief, Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani, has strengthened the industry. Under this leadership, Iraq has established specialized factories and launched key projects. One of the most significant developments is the light ammunition factory, which began operations in July 2024. This facility produces 63 million rounds annually, meeting international standards. Equipped with advanced machinery and modern testing laboratories, it ensures high-quality output.

The military industry expands to support Iraq’s security forces, particularly through localized production. The first phase of the ammunition plant in Ameriyat Al-Falluja has been completed, utilizing high-tech manufacturing lines. Rigorous testing in accredited laboratories guarantees superior quality. Iraq’s national standards authority has officially certified these products. In addition to ammunition, Iraq has launched a major armored vehicle production facility in Baghdad. So far, more than 600 combat-ready vehicles have been delivered to security forces, including the Ministry of Interior and the Popular Mobilization Forces.Beyond these achievements, the authority is also working on artillery shells, mortars, and drones. These projects involve collaborations with global defense manufacturers. The goal is to modernize Iraq’s military capabilities and reduce dependence on foreign imports.According to Ati, Iraq is developing a comprehensive artillery ammunition factory in partnership with international companies. The country is also revamping its heavy artillery and mortar production lines.

The military industry expands to support Iraq’s security forces, ensuring that local production meets national defense needs. With drone manufacturing underway, Iraq’s military gains an increasingly vital asset. The continued development of high-quality, domestically made equipment strengthens the country’s security and military self-sufficiency.
