PM Al-Sudani Directs Ministry of Electricity to Expedite Smart Solar Energy Project

Baghdad, Iraq- Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani has directed the Ministry of Electricity to immediately begin creating technical contracts for the smart solar energy project, using simplified procedures and specific criteria. These contracts will be prepared for submission to the Cabinet for a vote.

Al-Sudani chaired a meeting focused on discussing the technical aspects and smart solutions related to the solar energy project. The session was attended by the Minister of Electricity, members of the National Team for Smart Solutions and Renewable Energy, along with several governors and consultants to the Prime Minister.

The meeting covered several important topics, including the review of current energy systems, solar energy production, and the adoption of smart energy standards. The role of the private sector in contributing to smart energy management was also discussed. Local governments, in coordination with the Ministry of Electricity, will oversee energy generation projects in the governorates.

The Prime Minister emphasized the need for governors to quickly prepare the land required for these projects and to identify priority areas. Al-Sudani also instructed officials to limit the number of companies and investors interested in the initiative to ensure effective management.

By focusing on the adoption of smart standards, the government aims to streamline the process of energy collection and contribute to cost efficiency. This initiative is part of Iraq’s broader effort to enhance renewable energy capacity and improve energy sustainability.
