Iraq and U.S. Reaffirm Commitment to Strengthening Economic Ties

Baghdad, Iraq- Iraq and the United States have reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing bilateral relations, particularly in the areas of economic development and investment. In a phone call on Sunday, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani and U.S. National Security Advisor Michael Waltz discussed ways to improve cooperation between the two nations.

Prime Minister al-Sudani highlighted Iraq’s efforts to create a stable and inviting business environment. He emphasized the key reforms in place to attract American investment and ensure a business-friendly climate. “Iraq remains dedicated to strengthening its economic partnership with the United States and establishing a business environment that benefits both nations,” al-Sudani said.

On the other hand, Waltz recognized the challenges that American businesses face, especially in the Kurdistan Region. He stressed the importance of increasing American corporate engagement in Iraq and urged for the removal of barriers that hinder investment. “The U.S. is eager to see American companies play a greater role in Iraq’s economic development, and we encourage efforts to remove any barriers that hinder their success,” Waltz noted.

The conversation also focused on Iraq’s long-term stability, with both parties agreeing on the importance of U.S. companies contributing to the country’s economic growth. Waltz reiterated Washington’s commitment to helping Iraq achieve energy independence and offered continued cooperation to help reach that goal.

This dialogue marks another step toward deepening the strategic partnership between Iraq and the United States, particularly in fostering economic ties and supporting Iraq’s development.
