President Abdul Latif Rashid Reaffirms Iraq’s Strong Support for Lebanon at Arab Summit

Baghdad, Iraq- During his participation in the emergency Arab summit held in Cairo on March 4th, 2025, President of the Republic Abdul Latif Rashid reaffirmed Iraq’s unwavering support for Lebanon. He emphasized Iraq’s commitment to preserving Lebanon’s security, stability, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, ensuring the well-being and interests of its people.

In his meeting with Lebanese President General Joseph Aoun, Rashid extended his congratulations on Aoun’s appointment as President of Lebanon. He expressed his hope for continued success and prosperity for both Aoun and the Lebanese people. The meeting, which also included high-level Iraqi officials such as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Fuad Hussein, and Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government Qubad Talabani, reflected the strong ties between the two nations.

The discussions focused on the importance of strengthening bilateral cooperation between Iraq and Lebanon. Rashid underscored that the relations between the two countries are crucial and must be expanded to serve the mutual interests of both peoples. He reaffirmed Iraq’s firm position in supporting Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, stressing the country’s commitment to Lebanon’s stability and security.

The meeting also covered the outcomes of the Arab summit, particularly the decisions to support the Palestinian cause. Rashid highlighted the necessity of Arab unity in addressing the Palestinian issue, renewing Iraq’s condemnation of the ongoing aggression against Palestinian and Lebanese peoples. He reiterated that both nations have the right to live in peace, security, and stability.

In response, President Aoun thanked President Rashid for his concern about the developments in Lebanon and the wider region. He emphasized Lebanon’s eagerness to strengthen its historical ties with Iraq and to intensify cooperation across all sectors.

The meeting underscored the strong bond between Iraq and Lebanon, and the shared commitment to peace, stability, and regional cooperation.
