UNAMI Applauds Iraq’s Commitment to Women’s Empowerment with New National Plan

Baghdad, Iraq- The United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) has praised the Iraqi government’s support for the launch of the National Strategic Plan for Iraqi Women 2023-2030. This plan, announced on Tuesday, aims to enhance the status and rights of women across Iraq.

UNAMI’s Special Representative, Muhammed Al-Hassan, extended his congratulations to the Iraqi people on Iraqi Women’s Day. He highlighted the vital role of Iraqi women throughout history and their ongoing contributions to the country. Al-Hassan noted the significant sacrifices made by women and their key participation in defending rights, promoting social justice, and maintaining societal cohesion.

In his statement, Al-Hassan emphasized the importance of the new National Strategic Plan for Iraqi Women 2023-2030. He recognized the Iraqi government’s serious commitment to this initiative, which includes the establishment of the Supreme Council for Women’s Affairs and the Supreme Committee for Political Support for Women. These bodies will oversee the development and implementation of programs aimed at advancing women’s roles in various sectors.

Furthermore, Al-Hassan urged both the Iraqi government and its citizens to continue supporting the gains women have achieved so far. He stressed that Iraqi women have long been an honorable example for women globally. He expressed optimism about the future, looking forward to increased female participation across different sectors. This participation, he noted, will contribute significantly to Iraq’s stability, progress, and prosperity.

The National Strategic Plan for Iraqi Women 2023-2030 represents a crucial step in ensuring the empowerment and advancement of women in Iraq. As the government pushes forward with this plan, the country is taking important strides toward gender equality and inclusive development.

In conclusion, UNAMI’s recognition of Iraq’s efforts reflects a growing commitment to women’s rights. With continued support from both the government and the people, the role of women in Iraq’s future appears promising, contributing to the nation’s ongoing journey toward progress.
