New Library Opens at Erbil Traffic Directorate to Promote Reading

Baghdad, Iraq- A new library has been established inside the Erbil Traffic Directorate building, offering citizens a chance to read while waiting for their transactions. This initiative aims to encourage reading habits among visitors and make productive use of their time.

The opening ceremony was attended by Heman Mirani, Director General of the Ministry of Interior in the Kurdistan Regional Government, along with Brigadier General Aram Burhan, Director General of Erbil Traffic. Both officials praised the project and emphasized its importance in reviving the culture of reading.

The Erbil Traffic Directorate is one of the busiest government offices in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region. The electronic queue system helps citizens track their waiting time, allowing them to estimate how long they have before their turn. With long waiting periods often being unavoidable, the new library provides an excellent opportunity to engage in reading.

This library houses thousands of books in Kurdish, Arabic, and English, covering various subjects and genres. It offers a quiet space where visitors can immerse themselves in literature instead of spending time on their smartphones.

Heman Mirani highlighted the significance of this initiative, stating that reopening spaces for books is crucial in today’s digital era. He pointed out that people now spend most of their time on smart devices, making efforts like this essential to reignite interest in reading.

The Erbil Traffic Directorate hopes that this library will inspire more citizens to reconnect with books. The initiative seeks to remind people of the joy of reading while turning waiting time into a productive experience.
