Iraqi Parliament Speaker Reaffirms Sovereignty in Talks with Turkish FM

Baghdad, Iraq- On Monday, Iraqi Parliament Speaker Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani reaffirmed Iraq’s stance on the importance of maintaining its sovereignty and independence during a meeting with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan. The meeting focused on enhancing bilateral relations and expanding cooperation between the two nations in various fields.

Al-Mashhadani stressed the necessity of respecting Iraq’s sovereignty and national security, making it clear that Iraq rejects any interference within its borders. He emphasized that Iraq seeks to establish advanced relations with Turkey, based on mutual respect and adherence to agreements previously signed between the two countries.

The two leaders also discussed regional and international developments, highlighting the importance of constructive dialogue and cooperation to reduce tensions in the region. Al-Mashhadani called for a commitment to addressing outstanding issues through peaceful negotiations to ensure international peace and security.

The Speaker of Parliament further expressed hope for the new administration in Syria, urging the protection of ethnic and religious diversity, as well as the promotion of peace, prosperity, and political participation for all Syrian people. He underscored Iraq’s desire for regional stability, calling for joint efforts to confront any threats to peace and security.

Foreign Minister Fidan reiterated Turkey’s support for Iraq’s stability and independence, affirming his country’s commitment to strengthening economic, commercial, investment, water, and environmental cooperation. He expressed his hopes for expanding the scope of economic relations between the two nations.
