BAGHDAD — Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani attended a meeting of Iraq’s State Administration Coalition in Baghdad on Sunday evening following an official invitation from the coalition, as senior Iraqi leaders convened to discuss key national issues, including Prime Minister Ali Falih Al-Zaidi’s upcoming visit to Washington.
Kurdistan Region Presidency spokesperson Dilshad Shahab said on Sunday that Barzani attended the special meeting at the invitation of the coalition’s secretary-general.
According to Shahab, the meeting’s main agenda focused on preparations for the Iraqi prime minister’s visit to the United States.
Barzani was invited in his capacity as President of the Kurdistan Region and joined Iraq’s four top state leaders: the President of the Republic, the Speaker of Parliament, the President of the Supreme Judicial Council, and the Prime Minister.
Shahab added that the meeting also brought together representatives of most of Iraq’s major Kurdish, Shiite, and Sunni political parties.
The State Administration Coalition is Iraq’s principal governing political alliance, bringing together the country’s largest Shiite, Sunni, Kurdish, Christian, and Turkmen political forces. Established in late 2022 to form the previous government led by former Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani, the coalition continues to serve as a key forum for discussing major political, security, and economic issues and coordinating decisions among Iraq’s ruling parties.
