Iraq Plans Major Football Reset After World Cup Collapse

Iraq’s Olympic Committee plans to investigate the national football team’s poor World Cup campaign. The review follows a disappointing return to the tournament after a long absence. Iraq lost all three group-stage matches and left the competition without a point.

The team faced a difficult group against France, Norway, and Senegal. However, the results still raised serious questions about planning, preparation, and team development.

Iraq conceded 12 goals during the group stage. As a result, officials now want clear answers from football leaders.

The World Cup overhaul will focus on the causes behind the team’s weak performance. It will also examine the problems inside Iraq’s football system.

Iraqi Olympic Committee President Aqeel Muftin said officials will meet with the Iraqi Football Association. The meeting will review the team’s results and identify the main failures.

Moreover, Muftin said Iraq needs a real plan for improvement. He said the country must avoid repeating the same mistakes in future tournaments.

The planned review will cover short, medium, and long-term solutions. Therefore, officials want more than a quick reaction to one bad tournament.

They want a full roadmap for the national team. They also want stronger standards across domestic football.

The World Cup overhaul could place major pressure on football administrators. Many fans now want accountability after the painful exit.

Iraq’s return to the World Cup carried huge national excitement. Supporters hoped the team could compete with pride and discipline.

However, the difficult results turned that excitement into frustration. The heavy defeats showed a clear gap between Iraq and stronger football nations.

Still, officials believe Iraq can learn from the setback. They want the review to create practical steps, not only public statements.

Specialized committees will study the national team and the domestic league. They will also examine coaching, player development, competition quality, and management decisions.

In addition, the review may look at youth football programs. Stronger youth systems can help Iraq build a better future squad.

The domestic league also needs serious attention. A weak league can limit player growth and reduce international competitiveness.

Because of that, officials want to address problems at the root. They know the national team cannot improve without stronger local football.

Muftin also stressed shared responsibility for Iraq’s football future. He said the national team belongs to the entire country.

Therefore, the Olympic Committee, football federation, government, clubs, and fans must support reform. Iraq needs cooperation if it wants lasting progress.

The World Cup overhaul may also test the seriousness of football leaders. Supporters will watch whether officials make real changes or repeat old promises.

Iraq has talented players and passionate supporters. However, talent alone cannot close the gap with top international teams.

The country needs better planning, stronger coaching, improved facilities, and serious youth development. It also needs a league that prepares players for high-level matches.

Furthermore, Iraq must improve its defensive structure and tactical discipline. The World Cup results showed major weaknesses in both areas.

The review can help officials identify these problems clearly. Then, they can build a stronger plan for future competitions.

For now, Iraq’s football leadership faces a major test. The national team’s poor campaign created anger, sadness, and pressure for change.

However, the setback could also become a turning point. If officials act seriously, Iraq can start building a stronger football future.
