Baghdad, Iraq – On Monday, police in the Rusafa district arrested four individuals for using narcotics in public parks in the Zayouna area.
According to Rusafa Police, security forces acted on intelligence reports about drug activity in the area and apprehended the suspects, who were found with drug packets in their possession.This incident comes just a day after Iraq’s interior ministry reported the seizure of over a ton of captagon tablets smuggled from Syria through Turkey.Since 2014, the Ministry of Interior has issued 140 death sentences and 500 life sentences for drug-related offenses. In 2023 alone, authorities arrested over 19,000 individuals on drug charges, seized more than 15 tons of illicit substances, and killed at least 17 drug suspects during clashes with security forces.
