Prime Minister Al-Sudani Discusses Enhancements for Cancer Treatment in Iraq

Baghdad – Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani met with a delegation from the Warith International Cancer Institute (WICI), which is affiliated with the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussein. This meeting marked an important step in addressing cancer care in Iraq and enhancing the healthcare system.

According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s media office, the discussion focused on the operations of Warith Hospital for Cancer Treatment. The delegation and the Prime Minister reviewed the hospital’s activities and explored ways to strengthen its role in providing effective care to cancer patients.

Prime Minister Al-Sudani reaffirmed the government’s strong commitment to supporting healthcare institutions in Iraq. He emphasized that this support extends to those affiliated with the Ministry of Health, the holy shrines, and the private sector. “Our goal is to improve the quality of healthcare services for all Iraqis,” he stated.

He further highlighted the importance of facilitating the operations of Warith Hospital. By doing so, the government aims to improve cancer treatment across the country. The Prime Minister also praised the ongoing efforts in the charitable healthcare sector, recognizing the significant contributions being made in this area.

In addition, Prime Minister Al-Sudani pointed out recent developments in Iraq’s healthcare and pharmaceutical sectors. Notably, six new cancer medications have been registered at the cancer drug manufacturing plant in Karbala. This is a major advancement in the country’s ability to treat cancer patients with the latest treatments. Moreover, two new factories are under construction—one in Baghdad and the other in Basra—further bolstering Iraq’s healthcare infrastructure.

The meeting underscored the government’s commitment to expanding and improving Iraq’s cancer treatment capabilities. The Prime Minister reiterated that cooperation between the public and private sectors is crucial in enhancing medical services.

With these efforts, Iraq is on a path to improving cancer care and providing better support for patients across the nation. The continued collaboration between institutions like Warith Hospital and the private sector will play a key role in this transformation.
