Presidents of Iraq and Armenia Stress Respecting International Law and Dialogue to Resolve Conflicts

At the 80th United Nations General Assembly, President Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid of Iraq met with Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan in New York. They both emphasized the importance of respecting international law in today’s tense global environment. The two leaders also highlighted dialogue as the best way to solve conflicts and maintain peace worldwide.

During the meeting, the presidents discussed the growing challenges the international community faces. They pointed to rising tensions, food security problems, energy shortages, migration issues, and climate change as key concerns. Both leaders agreed these crises require urgent, coordinated responses.

In addition, they explored ways to deepen bilateral relations between Iraq and Armenia. They focused on expanding cooperation in economics, culture, and higher education. President Rashid emphasized the need to broaden partnerships and work together in international forums. This approach, he said, would help both countries play a more influential role globally.

The leaders also exchanged views on the current sessions of the UN General Assembly. They reviewed the agenda and anticipated outcomes. Both presidents stressed the importance of multilateral cooperation to tackle security, humanitarian, and economic challenges worldwide.

Throughout their discussion, the theme of respecting international law remained central. Both presidents reiterated that this principle must guide nations in resolving disputes peacefully. They warned that ignoring international law only worsens conflicts and threatens global stability.

Furthermore, they expressed strong support for enhancing international solidarity. They called for joint efforts to face ongoing crises and build a safer, more secure world for all. The commitment to uphold the rule of law and encourage dialogue stood out as key messages of the meeting.

The gathering included important officials from both countries. Iraq’s Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, Qubad Talabani, Minister of Health Salih Al-Hasnawi, Chief of the Presidential Office Kamel Al-Dulaimi, and Advisor to the Prime Minister Khalid Al-Yaqubi all attended. Armenian officials were also present.

In summary, the meeting between the Iraqi and Armenian presidents at the UN reinforced the vital role of respecting international law. They agreed that dialogue remains the most effective way to resolve conflicts and ensure peace. Their shared vision underscores the need for stronger international cooperation to meet today’s complex global challenges.
