MEPS 2025 Opens With Bold Calls for Reform

Middle East Peace Vision takes center stage today as the Sixth Middle East Peace and Security Forum opens in Duhok. The event begins with strong participation from top Iraqi and Kurdish leaders. Moreover, hundreds of diplomats, experts, and academics attend the gathering to discuss major regional challenges.

The forum launches with Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, KDP President Masoud Barzani, and Supreme Judicial Council President Faiq Zaidan all present. Many senior officials from Iraq and several countries also join the opening session. Middle East Peace Vision shapes the agenda from the start as the forum highlights the need for stability and long-term solutions.

Organizers explain that this year’s conference focuses on active conflicts and emerging risks across the Middle East. Speakers aim to propose realistic solutions and support long-lasting peace. Furthermore, the forum places major attention on developments in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region. Leaders hope to push forward stronger security and political cooperation.

The American University of Duhok hosts the annual event. It features several panels that examine Iraq’s political landscape, regional tensions, economic pressures, and shifting security dynamics. Middle East Peace Vision guides many discussions, especially as political figures call for a new approach to governing Iraq.

During a key session, Azem Alliance leader Muthanna al-Samarrai issues a direct warning about rising dangers in the region. He urges all Iraqi forces to work together to protect the country from crises. He describes the forum as an important “ideological platform” that can inspire practical solutions at a critical time, and also praises the recent elections, saying they show strong public trust in Iraq’s political process.

Al-Samarrai stresses unity. He calls on leaders to prioritize the people and strengthen the state. He also declares that Iraq must defend its sovereignty and distance itself from foreign interference. Additionally, he promotes regional dialogue, saying Iraq historically plays a stabilizing role.

National Wisdom Movement leader Ammar al-Hakim also shares a strong message. He expresses respect for the people of Kurdistan and the Barzani family. Hakim emphasizes that modern security now includes climate, food, energy, water, and investment. He argues that true stability requires social justice and fair treatment for all citizens.

Al-Hakim highlights Iraq’s improving global position. He notes the potential of the country’s youth and calls for support that turns their energy into real projects, as well as, urges party leaders to form a strong and balanced government that understands regional opportunities.

He concludes by stressing that Baghdad–Erbil relations must rely on constitutional partnership and warns that conflict harms all sides.

UN Special Representative Dr. Mohammed al-Hassan also delivers a hopeful message. He says the Middle East must drive its own change and explains that Iraq suffers from centuries of crisis and deserves a new beginning. He calls Iraq a birthplace of civilization and urges leaders to push for reform, science, and innovation. In addition, states that the next global race centers on technology, culture, and knowledge, not politics alone.

The forum continues with deeper discussions on peace, development, and a shared regional future.
