Maysan Oil Fields Boost Gas Production to Support Power Stations

Maysan’s oil fields continue to expand gas production, helping supply power stations with much-needed energy. Officials confirmed that associated gas production has reached 140 million cubic feet per day. Out of this, 30 to 35 million cubic feet support power stations within the fields.

Efforts to maximize gas utilization are ongoing. Authorities plan to increase the amount used to 40–45 million cubic feet per day. These improvements align with government programs aimed at strengthening national electricity supplies.

Maysan oil fields boost gas production to support power stations, ensuring a steady energy supply. Enhanced gas usage will reduce reliance on imported fuels and improve efficiency. The Ministry of Oil supervises these efforts to meet national energy demands.

Three major oil fields in Maysan have been under development since 2010. The Bazargan, Fakka, and Abu Gharb fields were awarded to Chinese and Turkish companies. Their goal is to enhance production capacity.

Currently, these fields produce 300,000 barrels of oil per day. Each field has unique reservoirs contributing to total output. Bazargan relies on the Mishrif reservoir, while Fakka utilizes both the Mishrif and Spanish reservoirs. Abu Gharb, on the other hand, depends on the Asmari reservoir.

To maintain reservoir pressure, a large-scale water injection project is underway. Crews have drilled 43 wells dedicated to injecting 236,000 barrels of water daily. This water comes from two sources: treated production water and saltwater extracted from eight specialized wells.

Maysan oil fields boost gas production to support power stations, reinforcing energy infrastructure. Gas separation facilities operate across nine stations, including those in Bazargan, Fakka, and Abu Gharb. Each station processes 40,000 barrels of oil per day. Upgrades to older facilities are also in progress.

Authorities are coordinating with the Maysan Investment Power Plant to utilize an additional 50–70 million cubic feet of gas. This gas will either power national electricity stations or be transferred through pipelines.

Local workforce development remains a priority. Currently, 7,750 Iraqi workers are employed in these fields, making up 88% of the workforce. Officials aim to raise this to 90% by increasing local hiring. Coordination with secondary companies and foreign firms ensures job opportunities for young professionals.

Maysan oil fields boost gas production to support power stations while also benefiting the local community. The company allocates 10 billion dinars annually for social projects. These include building schools, hospitals, and road improvements. Additionally, a major healthcare initiative will provide PET scan equipment to support medical services in Maysan.

Authorities remain committed to sustainable development. Their ongoing efforts ensure both energy security and economic growth. With steady improvements, Maysan’s oil fields will continue to play a key role in national energy production.
