Iraqi Leaders Condemn Drone Attack on Barzani Residence

Iraqi leaders condemn drone attack targeting President Nechirvan Barzani’s residence in Duhok. Moreover, the strike triggered widespread political outrage across Baghdad and Erbil.

President Abdul Latif Rashid called the attack a serious threat to national stability. He urged authorities to investigate and hold perpetrators accountable immediately. Additionally, he stressed stronger coordination between Baghdad and Erbil to prevent future incidents. He warned against any attempts to drag Iraq into regional conflict.

Caretaker Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani spoke with President Barzani by phone to review security developments. He directed the formation of a joint Baghdad-Erbil security team to investigate the strike and pursue legal action. Consequently, officials plan to strengthen preventive measures in the Kurdistan Region.

PM Masrour Barzani described the strike as a “cowardly attack.” He called on Baghdad to bring those responsible to justice and stop ongoing terrorist actions. Furthermore, he urged international allies to support efforts to protect citizens and regional interests.

Ammar al-Hakim, head of the al-Hikma (Wisdom) movement, condemned the strike as a threat to Iraq’s security and sovereignty. He called for urgent measures to maintain stability. Meanwhile, the al-Azm Alliance, led by Muthanna Al-Samarrai, also denounced the attack. They warned that it undermines efforts to ease tensions and preserve internal security.

Kurdish Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani described the incident as a dangerous escalation. He highlighted that armed groups operating outside state control pose growing threats to both Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.

Khamees al-Khanjar, head of the Sovereignty Alliance (al-Siyada), labeled the strike a “terrorist attack.” He emphasized that armed groups outside government authority endanger Iraq’s stability and institutions.

Iraqi Parliament Deputy Speaker Farhad Atroushi condemned the strike and called for the strong pursuit of those responsible. He also urged tighter coordination between security forces to prevent further incidents.

Other officials who condemned the attack include former Parliament Speaker Osama al-Nujaifi, Haider al-Feyli of the Feyli Kurdish bloc, and Arshad al-Salihi of the Turkmen bloc. Consequently, Baghdad and Erbil officials are coordinating closely to investigate and respond.

In conclusion, Iraqi leaders condemn the drone attack and stress justice, unity, and enhanced security cooperation. Transition measures are underway to ensure the safety of citizens and political stability across Iraq.
