Baghdad, Iraq- Iraqi security forces have arrested a high-ranking ISIS operative in Saladin, the Intelligence and Security Directorate confirmed. This individual managed the group’s finance, logistics, and intelligence operations. A Special Task Force carried out the operation, targeting the suspect under Article 4 of the Counter-Terrorism Law.
This arrest follows a similar raid last month when Iraq’s Counter-Terrorism Service captured multiple ISIS members in the Hamrin Mountains. Security forces continue their operations to dismantle ISIS networks and prevent further attacks.
ISIS, which emerged from al-Qaeda in Iraq, declared a self-proclaimed caliphate in 2014 and seized large areas across Iraq and Syria. The group became notorious for its brutal tactics, including mass executions and terror attacks. Though ISIS lost its territorial control in 2017, it remains a security threat.
Despite suffering heavy losses, the fight against ISIS is ongoing. Sleeper cells still operate in Iraq and neighboring regions, launching sporadic attacks. Security forces remain vigilant to prevent the group from regaining strength.
Officials stress that the fight against ISIS requires continuous intelligence operations and regional cooperation. The recent arrest marks another step in weakening the group’s remaining networks. However, experts warn that without sustained efforts, ISIS could resurge.
Iraq remains committed to eradicating ISIS and ensuring national security. The fight against ISIS will continue until the threat is completely eliminated.
