Iraqi Embassy Denies Visa Fee Increase, Flights to Syria Still Suspended

Baghdad – The Iraqi Embassy in Damascus issued a clear statement on Tuesday addressing rumors about increased visa fees for Iraqis entering Syria. The embassy strongly denied reports that the entry visa now costs $250. Officials called such claims completely inaccurate.

To ensure accuracy, the Iraqi Embassy in Damascus confirmed that Syrian authorities had not changed visa fees. The embassy urged all Iraqis to trust only official announcements. It warned the public against relying on social media posts or unverified news sources.

However, this response came after rumors began circulating about an alleged fee hike. Many Iraqis expressed concern and confusion, leading to widespread questions on travel procedures. The embassy acted quickly to put those fears to rest.

Additionally, the embassy reminded citizens that all updates will be shared through its verified communication channels. It asked travelers to stay informed through proper government platforms. This move aims to reduce misinformation and protect Iraqi citizens from false reports.

In a related matter, the Iraqi Ministry of Transport spoke about flights to Syria. The Ministry confirmed that civil flights between Iraq and Syria remain suspended. This travel suspension has been in effect since the fall of the previous Syrian regime.

Maytham al-Safi, the Ministry’s spokesperson, clarified the situation during a press interview. He said no airline currently offers regular service between Baghdad and Damascus. Thus Even Cham Wings Airlines, once active on this route, has stopped its operations.

Despite occasional discussions, no timeline exists for resuming flights to Syria. The Ministry continues to monitor the situation closely. However, for now, the flight ban remains unchanged.

While the Iraqi Embassy in Damascus emphasized that Iraq values its ties with Syria. Yet, the safety of travelers remains the top priority. Until conditions improve, flight and visa protocols will follow official guidance.

This joint effort between Iraqi diplomatic and transport authorities shows their commitment to transparency and public safety. Citizens are advised to check regularly for government-issued updates.

This latest clarification reflects Iraq’s effort to support its nationals and maintain responsible communication with the public.
