Iraq Hosts Four-Nation Meeting on Development Road Project in Baghdad, marking another milestone for regional cooperation. On Monday, September 15, 2025, Minister of Transport Razzaq Muhaibis Al-Saadawi presided over the fifth technical session. Delegations from Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and Turkey also attended, reinforcing their commitment to the initiative.

Al-Saadawi explained that the meeting builds on earlier discussions with partner nations. He confirmed that Iraq updated attendees on its latest progress and strategies. Sponsored by Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, the talks reflected Iraq’s determination to push forward with the ambitious project.

During the session, officials reviewed key steps taken by the Iraqi government and the Supreme Committee. These included forming committees to oversee land acquisition, provide compensation, and guarantee security along the route. The Development Road will stretch from Basra to Turkey, serving as a vital trade corridor.

The Minister also highlighted the completion of the financial and economic model prepared by consulting firm Oliver Wyman. Partner nations received details about the Grand Faw Port’s progress, alongside railway and dry road components. Al-Saadawi announced that Iraq will soon unveil the first completed section.

Moreover, the Minister revealed that Oman has formally requested to join the initiative. He noted that several other nations have expressed growing interest. Such developments demonstrate increasing confidence in the project’s strategic importance for the entire region.
